Albums Lot
Why don't a lot of musicians get record deals, produce major albums or go on major tours?
Is it because, although they are good musicians, they do mostly covers?
Why??
it's a combination of luck, talent, and popularity. Producing records and tours is an incredibly expensive endeavor. Companies are going to try to minimize their risk by backing bands or acts that they think will make them money, so being good, or original or even musical takes a back seat to 'saleability'. And there are tens of thousands of acts to choose from, so it takes an incredible amount of luck just to be heard by someone that can talk to someone that can convince the guy that makes the decisions to even give an act a chance.
