Baby Rare
How rare nowadays is it for a baby to be born with a "caul" ( the membrane around the fetus)?
Very rare in a hospital birth because doctors seem to think you have to screw with everything that naturally happens during labour so they rupture the membranes. Of course if your membranes rupture early in labour then they blame things on you having a "dry birth". Nice, eh?
In home births they may still be becoming more rare because of poor nutrition (vitamin C among others has been shown to prevent PROM). Also women are demanding internal checks of dilation so more more are being done and many midwives are doing them as routine even though they aren't necessary or helpful in almost all cases. Poking around may rupture the membranes.
I have never seen any actual statistics on this though. There may be stats on PROM though.
