I LOVE this dance and it's the Scottish influence in the island of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, the Canadian maritimes.
Do Scottish people like this dance? Are there Scottish villages that still dance to this fiddle-piano type duo?
Definitely Scottish influence.
It's the kind of music I think you might hear in a pub or at a local barn dance.
Fiddle & accordian is a more likely combination.
Every year we go to a barn dance, in a village hall, usually 2nd/3rd of January after the local shinty match (war), and this is similar to the music we'd expect.
It's packed with everyone from 17 to 70.
Probably more popular in the Highlands and in the islands maybe Shetland/Orkney.
