How to "condition" a monofilament net?
I have a mono casting net that I got last summer. I tried to learn how to throw it, but I can on achieve a good toss on 1 out of 20 times. Part of the reason I think it is giving me a problem is that the mono seems to have a good memory to it and is "poofy" (if thats even a word). Because its so "poofy" its hard to wrap up the net to throw it. (It's a 7 foot net so it's kind of big.)
Is there any way to make the mono less rigid? I store it in currently in my regular garage, but I also have a 20x10 vinyl garage for all the lawn equipment, it gets over 100 degrees in there... I was thinking about hanging it in there so the heat and weight of the lead will stretch it out. Good idea? Bad? Any other suggestions. (Besides buying a nice mesh net... don't have the money for that.)

Make your first casting attempts with a small net. A 6' (diameter) one is best, going no larger than 8'. Before casting from a boat, practice in your backyard. This way you’ll see exactly how the net lands — whether it clumps up or makes a perfectly spread circle. Try your best to avoid sticks or rocks that might snag the net.
SOAK IT FIRST
Before using your net, soak it overnight in a bucket filled with two gallons of water and a capful of fabric softener. The solution will make the net more flexible, allowing it to be thrown easier and lie flatter on the water.
