Jeff somthing (all i know is that he is number 38
and this other guy i dont remember the name of.
They came to our school in P.E to talk to us and ask questions. A student asked where would you be without football?
Eddie Betts replied, 'i had done alot of stupid things when i was growing up, if it wernt for footy I WOULD BE IN JAIL.'
Eddies actual words. What are your thoughts about his answer?
P.S i asked him how does it feel to be on the footy cards and he replys it seems wierd and he laughed.
Fisher is the number 14 for Carlton - his first name is Brad.
Number 38 is indeed Jeff Garlett.
Knowing a little of Eddie's history, he had a bit of a delinquent background - and in the end only became an aussie rules football player because of his father, who had been in and out of jail himself. Eddie took a chance at it, and became a star.
He had also had a little success at soccer - something which comes out in the ability of his to kick goals from either side of the goalposts using either foot.
Eddie was arrested earlier this year and that woke him up a bit.
I think he realises that being a footballer, although it's his job, is a privilige - and you have to respect the rules that govern the system.
I think he knows if he slips up again, he most likely will be fired from Carlton - and that would be a shame, as he's been a great player for us (one of my favourites in the current side), and I'm hoping he'll be a good role model for Garlett, Yarran, and other players in the squad - indigenous or otherwise.
It's great to know that he sees footy as a positive influence in his life, and gave him a better future for himself.
