Whoa, they're making that into a movie? I know that the ideas behind the novel have lots of advocates, but I would have preferred to have seen a more-subtle treatment of complex social issues than what Ayn Rand came up with. I got the feeling that she didn't trust her readers' intelligence enough to try to make her points more-subtlely. Basically, what she was saying is that we should all let superior people run things, because they can "get it done." The rest of us should know our place and serve them. And the rest of it was, bascially, a rant against any and all forms of socialism, bureaucracies, and government interference. And, while there's a lot of truth in her theories, I don't understand why her fans seem to forget just how bad things can be when businesses are allowed to run completely unfettered (19th centurty "robber barons," anyone?). In Rand's ideal world, there would have been no consequences for the likes of the Enron execs.
I wish that I had a solution. I don't. I think that she was on the right track, but that her theories are too extreme for "the real world." And, again, there was that annoying tone in which she seemed to be speaking down to her audience, because they are "oblviously" less-intelligent than she...
OK, back to your question: I read "Atlas Shrugged" so long ago that the characters are no longer fresh in my mind. But your casting doesn't seem to present any glaring mis-casts--at least not to my mind.
You're probably going to hate me for saying this, but I 'd rather not see that movie get made, for political reasons. (And, no, I cringe at the "extremist lefty" films, too--if that's what you're wondering.) I've seen how that book influences people...and we've got a bunch of dumbasses who don't read much nowadays who take in movies as entertainment but wind up being influenced by "bash 'em over the head with it" political messages (Rand was right about that much). Take away the whole "religious thing" from their platform, and "Atlas Shrugged" is what's left of pure Republican politics. Of course, those folks will continue to complain about "those radicals in Hollywood" and the so-called "Liberal Press," when the truth is that they've got their own propaganda machine running--and very efficiently, thankyouverymuch!
