Five Live
If you had only five years to live, what would you do with these years?
You are 21 years old, and are in college. The only thingyou have is college debt.
During these five years you cannot fly or do anything that will cause your heart to race.
Also, during the last year or so you will be extremely tired. In this year you won't even have the energy to cook for yourself. Getting dressed will be a huge chore. Going out is not an option in this last year.
What would you do with your time?
I hope this question is a "what if" question, but I will write my answer for the worst possible scenario.
Six years ago, I was told that I would be lucky to be alive in five years. Further, I was told that, during most of my remaining life I would be in treatment and be quite ill. After going into a remission for lymphoma, the next round of chemo was already being planned, as the remission was only expected to last a couple of months. I got lucky. I am still in remission.
So, I can tell you what I did.
1. First, I put away all depressing books and movies.
2. Then, after thinking about what I could NOT do, I listed the things that I COULD do and WANTED to do.
3. Even though this narrowed the field significantly, there was still a complete list of activities that made me happy and content.
4. I reconnected with people who were important to me. It is surprising to me how relationships can get lost in the shuffle of making a living.
5. I reconnected with music. It became, and still is, a major part of my life.
6. I bought a dog. If I had that to do over again, I would not buy a puppy. However, my dog has been a source of tremendous comfort. He also spurred me to get out of bed on days when I really did not want to move.
7. I reconnected to my religion. This was complicated for several reasons, but has been a huge comfort.
8. Never give up HOPE!!!!!
