What is something you regret? I'm just finshing HS and gotta write a paper on something i regret doing?
I'm Stuck on Ideas.
ANd im not someone that is stubborn and believes i had made no mistakes?
I dont drink/drugs. And i do well in school. I have nice friends and rarely get into trouble.
Sometimes when one has no idea on what to write (for a given topic) they can actually write about the quandary (of having nothing to write). Thank goodness, because that concept helped me produce an incredible number of undergraduate papers.
Okay, consider pondering these from the stand point of “In my years so far on the planet…”
Should I have been more stubborn? About what could I have been stubborn? (good or bad) & how might that have affected outcomes? (what might have been different)
Have I made enough mistakes? Do people need to err to grow? And given (your opinion on) that new idea, do I regret (for example) NOT getting out of my mind & wrecking the car, NOT becoming a father while still a teenager, or NOT signing over my life to the Marine Corps? Oh, you don't regret any of these? Well, how about switching it around? Could you imagine (regreting) not doing MORE of something? "I wish I played more baseball" or "I regret missing out on the last shuttle to the int'l space station, although the ticket price was steep, I know that place was for me". Maybe you think I'm kidding. Well, never missed a paper, and carried a 3.98 GPA (parenting a pre-schooler & working full time); I suggest you allow your mind run around unexpected ideas.
If I could recapture a section of time, would I live it any differently? Consider, perhaps, how (anyone) else’s life has panned out, positive or negative. You could always write a contrast: if I were thee, I would regret – but I am me, and lucky I be (without the rhyming).
Do I regret knowledge I have? If I could re-do my life, would I wait to learn.... How to drive a car? why I really need to vote? what really goes into a sausage? (fill in the blank).
Do I regret NOT learning something? i.e. – in my wildest dreams I would have…. (learned to TANGO! - or competitive Jai Lai, or been a Rugby player, or played the violin). Then write a paper on whether one would regret taking that plunge or not.
BIG HINT: regrets aren't always about trouble, they can be about positive things too. For example, there’s a lot of people who in hindsense (that is, after the fact) actually regret not taking more time to goof off or to have fun. Some adults regret not having studied more, or earlier. I know (now) that I really should have told that boy in 5th grade that I loved him. No, it really doesn’t weigh heavily on me at this point in my life - but if I ran into him, yes I'd tell him - and wow could I write a paper about that.
And, you know, just because you are so very fortunate as to have little or no regrets (very nice), it doesn’t mean you haven’t lived. “Trouble” is not the only life experience; a little brain storming about the regret-concept from more than one side can help. I’d only regret you not realizing that YOU have ideas not yet discovered. .
