Please can you recommend some jazz music I may like?
I've always been very intrigued by jazz music and know the kind of style that I would like to listen to but haven't got a clue where to start!
I'm looking for some instrumental jazz recommendations, not heavily based around a single instrument - I suppose I'm interested in a collective sound by a large group of instruments, a band maybe more so than an orchestra but I'm not sure.
Musically, I suppose I'm looking for quite interesting and involved music, going in new directions but not avant garde. However, I appreciate any suggestions! One of my favourite albums is "Standards" by Tortoise, if that helps.

Since you like Tortoise, I'm guessing you'd be more into modern jazz rather than the old-school stuff.
You should try Dave Douglas's Moonshine CD, which includes trumpet, sax, electric piano, bass and a DJ.
A great modern jazz pianist is Brad Mehldau. His stuff is all acoustic, but he does great covers, including several Radiohead tunes. Try his CD "Day Is Done"..
