What do I tell my friend who just found out he is having a baby?
An old roommate of mine just called to tell me that some random girl from his work is having his baby. He said that he can't stand her, she is really ghetto and that she is going to keep it. (She already has one kid and so I don't blame her.) To make matters worse, he attends a religious university and they will for sure kick him out for it. I just don't know what to say to him that may offer some comfort. What are things that you might say?
I would tell him to go talk to his pastor, if it were me.
That's probably the best advice you can give him.
Secondly if she's as bad as he says then get a paternity test, but he may be exaggerating because he's so upset.
Thirdly tell him there's no reason the college would be informed. Tell him to be as nice as possible to her and talk about arranging monthly payments outside of the law and would she please keep it private till he graduate, that way he can support his son better on later in life.
And then tell him to seriously think about the good things that could come from having a son. And again, make sure he's nice to this girl at least outwardly, because it's probably hard for her too and even if it's not, she's going to be in his life for a long time now, and he will just have to reconcile himself to this fact or completely abandon an innocent child (another thing I'm sure his school would be thrilled about)
His school wouldn't feel awesome about him asking a girl to have an abortion either I'm sure.
