What's the best way to record a live event with limited Microphones?
Ok, here's the problem. I'm trying to record a live theatre event, band in the backround, some sound efects, and of course the singers (who are miked on a seperate system). Now, there is no way for me to adjust levels on the system, so I'm trying to set up some microphones in the back of the house to try to capture as much as possiable and be able to leave it and get decent sound.
Now, Problem is I have no shot-gun mikes of which to use (distance is about 75ft to Back of house). I have 2 SM 58, 2 SM 78, 2 Floor Mikes (though I can't do much with them due ot the stage requirements), and one wireless SM 58. Anyone have suggestions on ways to record this as effectively as possiable with the equipement given?

Are the "floor mics" PZMs? If so, you can tape them to the back wall of the house and get most of the ambient sound. Then you need to ask for a feed from the house mixer - either mono or stereo. This shouldn't be much of a problem for the main sound guy b/c his board should have several "aux sends". If your recorder has multiple tracks, put a SM78 near a speaker and run that in too. You can mix all these down to mono later when you record a master.
If you only have a stereo recorder, run the pzm in one channel and the house feed into the other. Then remix it into mono when you do the master.
