Question for you Jazz Folks...?
I really like John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and other old time Jazz greats. And I am trying to get into Jazz Fusion, but it just doesn't seem to have the emotion and improvisation of Classic Jazz.
While it can be good, (Smiley recommended Jean Luc Ponty to me, and I like it), but most of it seems to be super focused on precision play over the soulful style of playing. Almost like they follow a formula, which seems...well kinda un-Jazz-like to me.
Is it just I haven't heard the right bands?
Can you recommend some good Soulful Jazz Fusion and or Acid Jazz to me?
