An insect bite resulting in major infection? ?
My daughter was bitten by something (we presume a spider). The site of the bite was left open and it was oozing pus and blood two days after the bite occured and the size of the bite increased from what looked like the size of a mosquito bite, to approximately 2" in diameter in two days time.
I took her to the emergency room and she was immediately started on intravenous antibiotics and has to return for more today. She was also given a prescription for antibiotics.
The ER doctor lanced the bite wound and squeezed the infection out. Again, it was bloody and full of hard chunks of pus. The wound was packed and a drainage tube was put in the wound.
Does anyone know what kind of an insect could have caused damage like this in such a short amount of time?
I've sen this happen with a recluse spider. The bites can range from small holes to large wounds. Look at Google Images for Recluse Spider Bite. Please be careful that you do not have any in your home. Make sure you continue to keep the wound clean and if there is packing in the wound make sure to change it.
