How do you deal with people in life that can never let you feel important in a conversation?
The people who when you tell them about something important or exciting in your life, they can't just say "oh, that's great" they need to always make the conversation revolve around them and not let you enjoy a special moment.
Well its my mother-in-law so I have to have a relationship with her.
Sometimes when people respond to your conversations with a similar situation of their own to share, (especially women) they do so in order to let you know that they can relate in effort to bond with you. It can often be perceived as the person trying to one- up you or steal your thunder so to speak. On the other hand, some people are just very self-centered and have a been there done that type of attitude - only they've done it better of course - it just shows that they are insecure and feel the need to prove their superiority. Seeing as it is your mother in law you're really in a lose lose situation. Don't waste your time by saying anything. This is a pick your battles type of situation, and I would just wave the white flag on this one. (privately of course)
