Does the Story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer send a bad message?
If you are different, you will be made fun of and outcast. But, if your differences can be exploited for our gain, we will accept you.
I guess you could look at it that way.
I think of it as more of a change of heart. Santa, the elves, and the other reindeer realized that they were wrong about Rudolph. He was different but he did have something to offer. When they realized his worth, they gave him the coveted position at the front of the sleigh. The song says they "loved him" and shouted that he would go down in history. They didn't force him to work Christmas Eve while keeping him chained up in a shed the rest of the year.
In the TV special, the elf and even the Abominable all find their niches and are appreciated for the contributions they make. I would hope everybody on the North Pole learned a lesson and went on to be more tolerant from the start. But the story doesn't really tell us that, does it?
