Rural Rock
Where are you from and do you think today's underground Rock is it's own worst enemy?
I'm from New York City and people here complain 24/7 about how lame as gotten, I seriously think the scene itself is what's holding it back.
Rock fans today seem to live to tear bands down before even giving them a listen. The underground here is basically hipsters who go to shows to pose and talk sh!t about the band and disect their influences.
It's become a large city of elists who barely play and think their sh!t doesn't stick. This makes it very hard for a band to find a crowd who really listens to them with an open mind.
I've heard that in the midwest and rural areas barkyard and garage bands have an easier time with crowds because kids pretty much go to Rock out.
Is this true or false?

Yeah, I see what you're saying and mostly agree. I check in with Vice Magazine every now and then and it seems to me that NYC definitely has its share of hipster elitists.
I lived in a small town in South Carolina and was in a good ol' rock and roll band (a la NY Dolls/Stooges/Sabbath) and we did pretty well around there. People that came to our shows just liked to drink some beers and get a little rowdy and have some fun.
I currently live in southeastern VA and the music scene is pretty weak around here. I have to go about 45 minutes to an hour to catch anything good. It's all a bunch of Nickelback cover bands where I live.
