"Wax Nostalgic"
Cylinder recordings, invented by Thomas Edison in 1877, were the first form for recording and reproducing sound. A stylus was used to etch sound vibrations on to a rotating wax cylinder. To be shipped, these cylinders were placed inside tin containers and packed into boxes.
Suppose a shipper packed a cylinder into a right rectangular box with a square base so that the cylinder fit tightly into the box, touching the box on all its six faces. The diameter of the cylinder is 6 inches, and its height is 10 inches. A special, insulated packing material is used to fill the space between the cylinder and the box. What is the volume, in cubic inches, of the packing material needed to fill the space? Use 3.14 for pie.

=282.6
The volume of the box is
6*6*10=360
the packing is the difference between the two
360-282.6
=77.4 inches^3
