What is a good time for running the 400 m?
Well, my school's track tournament is next month, and I have no experience being on the track time (first time). I'm planning on running the 400 m, and I am also not too sure if 1:15 is a good time (I'm 13).
So, what is an excellent, good, mediocre, poor, and bad time? Thanks.
I am in highschool. and back then when I was in junior high, i remember when I did my first couple track meets. (I was 13 too!). I remember the fastest I got was 1:13.72. That number was engraved in my mind because I never beat it till i was in my 8th grade year. I got 1:09.32 at this one track meet. Both numbers are engraved in my mind forever because it reminds me of my first track days...
I'll give you this peace of advice...WORK HARD! Work really hard! Its not for another month, so you have plenty of time. You have a good timing! But you could probably shave off some 2 or 3 seconds if you work hard. You have EXCELLENT timing. Run several laps, and drink plenty of water when you are practicing. Its what I did. Just keep at it. And once your competing, run like h*ll! Don't look back. Don't look back to see if your opponents are catching up to you or not. If you see someone pass you, work every fiber of you to overcome them. But more then anything, WORK HARD!
Another, kinda pathetic (but still usefull), before your competition listen to some up-beat, happy, up lifting music. Preferably punk rock. I remember my coach in junior high would always say about 30 minutes before my event "Get mentally prepared for your race!" And I would pull out my ipod and listen to my "power-song" over and over. It just seems to motivate you to run fast.
