What will it take for people to understand that white shepherds are not rare, mutations or defective?
It's so frustrating to constantly see answers about white shepherds that are incorrect. White is a natural color of the german shepherd dog. They are not albinos, they are not rare. Please, if you're curious about white shepherds visit the American White Shepherd Association online and learn about them.
I don't think anyone with at least half a brain thinks they are rare, mutations, or defective. However, people are aware that white is a disqualification in the confirmation ring and that no responsible breeder would intentionally breed for dogs that are non-standard. As pets, most people are perfectly aware they are absolutely the same as any other GSD, but they just can't be shown. But I still wouldn't trust anyone who is intentionally breeding for them, intentionally producing non-standard GSDs just because they are set on making white dogs. And that's about all there is to white GSDs. No more, no less.
♥dogs♥ - Breed clubs set breed standards, not the AKC. If the GSD breed club decided tomorrow that white was no longer a disqualification, the AKC would welcome them to shows with open arms. Furthermore, almost every GSD breed club in every country (which are responsible for setting the breed standards in their respective countries) considers white a disqualification, not just the American GSD club.
