what have the stories of king arthur done for the world/society?
like in america? other than him being like an example of a good leader what else? other than the hotel? have the legends had impact on our gov, culture..ect? what do u think?
Created a name for “King Arthur Flour”.
Inspired a television series in the early 60s on Sir Lancelot. Inspired a current television show called Merlin.
Inspired the style of Ariosto’s “Orlando Furioso”.
Inspired modern authors and poets and filmmakers.
But the influence has mostly been ephemeral. Some modern writers like Tennyson modified the stories to fit the ideals of his time, rather than vice versa. The medieval tales don’t provide any details about how Arthur’s government worked.
The idea that knighthood itself was often a good thing does largely come from Tennyson’s retelling, though by Victorian times the descendants of real knights had become landowners who made money by investment. I rather suspect that the Klu Klux Klan was partly influenced by a vague memory of Arthurian tales, but it would have been little different if Arthurian tales had never existed.
What has Shakespeare's “Hamlet” done for the world/society? What has the story of “Beowulf" done for the world/society? What as the “Iliad”, the “Odyssey” and the “Aeneid” done for the world/society? Mostly provided entertainment, a subject for illustrators, a source for later reworkings, and so forth.
