Young Americans
How will these upcoming elections effect the younger americans and young adults?
Like the teenagers and twenty somethings just now becoming aware of the issues of the world... My sister is 20 years old and pregnant and like my mother doesn't think that it's important to vote. I told her that it is important to vote because of the future and also the present of her baby and issues that will continue to affect us well into our adult years.
Well, America is in a very difficult position right now. Domestically, the country is facing a deep rooted financial crisis that is looking more dire as the days go by. There is the misguided war that is sucking a lot of money from the economy. And the general population has very low opinions of the President and the Congress. Getting people to think positively about the institutions and having people see a clear path towards an economic recovery is very important.
Internationally, America's reputation has taken a server hit as well. A country that was once looked up to as the leader of the world and a model of fairness and moral values, is now disliked in many parts of the world. Like it or not, America needs the world as much as they need America. So getting that respect back is very important.
This election is all about turning the corner. No matter who the president is, he will have a tremendous responsibility to get American back on the right track. The question is who will do that? It is for the voters to answer that. Who becomes the president could have a far reaching impact on where America stands after four, eight, twenty or fifty years from now.
So the younger Americans and young adults need to think hard about their values, their aspirations and decide which candidate is better positioned to improve things. And most importantly, people need to vote. Voting is the ultimate prize of democracy and a high voter turnout is imperative to assure that the right person ascends to the Presidency.
